Thank you for finding our website. In a world of abundant - but struggling - professional organizations it is OUR duty to keep this one alive. PE Licensure requires collaboration at the local, state, and national level. The Chicago Chapter is responsible for being an advocate and resource for Chicagoland engineers with a goal of maintaining the value of the license they hold and assuring that engineering is always performed with the good of public welfare over all.
From the start of my career in 2005, I was quickly immersed in the "world" of ISPE. As an entry level engineer, I was not aware of the value of the PE license. Fortunately, my Boss/CEO/Mentor, Wilbur Milhouse III, P.E., pointed me in the right direction. He laid it out very clear, saying something like this:
You will take and pass the FE this year; then you will work under me for 4 years leaning how to become a qualified engineer; and then you will take another exam proving that you have the basic knowledge. After that, it is on you to continue learning and to assure that you are the qualified engineer required for the projects you work on.
Wilbur then told me about ISPE and what it stands for. As the president, he appointed me to the unofficial - but very important - title of "Assistant TO the President". From that day forward, I have been a part of the Chicago Chapter.
Although our Chapter is strong in numbers, we are often restrained by the costs of putting on events in the expensive downtown venues. Therefore, we have learned to be creative with our events and often co-sponsor events with other organizations to mitigate the costs directly to our chapter. WE appreciate your patience with us while we continue to evolve our chapter to the new way of existing as a non-profit organization.
Lastly and most importantly, I would like to thank our board, my mentors, and all of our volunteers who have worked hard year after year.
With special thanks to - Wilbur, Laura, Tex, Kim, Robin, Suzanne, Nicole, Drew, Monica, Joel, Jose, Luke, .....
To our members and all interested non-members - Welcome! We look forward to making your experience with the Chicago Chapter of ISPE the best it can be.
Sincerely,
Adam R. Hardy, P.E.
